I am originally from Gunnison, CO and now live in Denver. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado Boulder and graduated summa cum laude in May 2019. I also earned a certificate in global public health. I have a passion for science and a goal to become a genetic counselor.
After college, I worked in a variety of professions including travel, sports, and education. I have enjoyed working with people at each step of the way and I seek opportunities to work with students and children whenever I can. I recently started my own tutoring company, Emma Burt Tutoring. When I’m not creating content for Orsch, I spend my days working with my own students via Zoom. I very much enjoy helping them navigate their academics, work hard to understand difficult concepts, earn great grades, and pursue various career goals. I love working with my students to teach them not only academics but also how to do good in the world and work towards each of their goals. Additionally, I am currently in my fifth year working for the Colorado Avalanche as a member of the Ice Patrol.
Outside of work, I volunteer with a few wonderful organizations including Some1 Like You, the African Leadership Group (ALG), and Advanced Tele-Genetic Counseling (AT-GC) to assist in the facilitation of patient advocacy programs, helping students, and hosting events. At AT-GC, I assist with practice operations and with developing patient advocacy opportunities. With ALG, I donate tutoring time to help children who are recent immigrants from Africa become acquainted and comfortable with their academics. I’ve also been fortunate to help develop and maintain the BE KIND Project, participate in rare disease days, and find other ways to advocate for patients with Some1 Like You, a patient advocacy organization.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my fiancé and our cat, Small Cat Helen, and other family members. I love hiking, skiing, playing hockey, running, and traveling. I have a passion for seeing the world and can’t wait to be back out exploring one day soon!
